Mla citation style
The “MLA” abbreviation stands for Modern Language Association style the most frequent use of which is found when writing papers in liberal arts and humanities. If you use the MLA style, it means that you are writing a paper in literature, arts, English, languages, history or philosophy. When writing in MLA style it is a must to consult the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (6th edition) and also the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (2nd edition). The whole information one needs to know about the MLA style to have no problem with his/her paper formatting can be found there. The basic guidelines are as follows: the work should be printed on a computer on a standard sheet of paper in Times New Roman or Courier font. The text of your paper should be double-spaced and margins set to 1inch on all sides of the sheet. All pages should be numbered in the upper right-hand corner, but sometimes the first page of the paper might be omitted of the number symbol. As for citation in the MLA style, it is important to know that it presupposes a use of parenthetical citation, which means that a brief reference to a source of a citation consisting of the name of the author and the page on which the cited material is found, to be placed directly after the citation in the text to show whom you are citing. The full bibliographic information of the material one used for citing can be found at the end of the paper in the Works Cited list. The bibliography is alphabetized by an author's last name. To cite somebody's ideas you can use a direct quote which presupposes word for word citing or paraphrase ones' words by saying the same in your own way with the main idea left. But in both cases it is a must to state the source after citing. In other case it will be considered a plagiarism.
